Terms of Service

These terms cover the hosted service at opteryx.app. It is operated by Justin Joyce, an individual, in his spare time; there is no company behind it. The open-source engine is licensed separately under Apache-2.0. By signing in or using the service you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy.

The service

Opteryx lets you run SQL over data in your own storage, in databases you point it at, or in files you upload. It is provided as it is. There is no uptime guarantee or support commitment, and features may change or be withdrawn. If you plan to depend on it for something important, talk to me first.

Your account and your data

Acceptable use

Don’t break the law, attack or probe the service or anyone else’s systems, try to get around the quotas, or use it to harm other people or to send abusive amounts of traffic. I may suspend or remove access where this happens.

Free allowance and charges

The free allowance is a quota, not a credit: 100 queries a day, 167 MB of queried data a day and 5 GB of storage at any one time. Without a billing account, usage beyond it is blocked and never charged. If you set up billing, the allowance is five times larger and usage beyond it is charged at the rates on the pricing section, accruing daily and invoiced monthly in pounds sterling, excluding VAT. Card payments are handled by Stripe. The details of how usage is measured and rounded are in the cost model. I’ll give at least 30 days’ notice, by email to your billing contact or in the service, before a price or allowance change takes effect, and if a change increases what you pay you can close your account before it does.

Limits on my responsibility

To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for lost data, lost profit or indirect loss arising from your use of the service, and my total liability to you is limited to what you paid me in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Keep your own copies of anything you can’t afford to lose.

Ending things

You can stop using the service at any time and delete your workspaces in Studio. I may suspend or end the service or your access, and will give notice where it is practical.

Changes

I may update these terms. If a change matters, the date above will change and I’ll say so on the site. Continuing to use the service afterwards means you accept the new terms.
