Privacy Policy
Opteryx is operated by Justin Joyce, an individual, in his spare time. There is no company behind it. This page says what personal data the hosted service at opteryx.app collects, why, and who else handles it. It doesn’t cover the open-source engine, which collects nothing when you run it yourself.
Who is responsible for your data
Justin Joyce. To ask about your data, book a call or send a note through this page. I don’t yet have a dedicated email address for this.
What I collect
- Sign-in details. When you sign in with GitHub or Google, I receive your email address, your name if the provider shares it, and the provider’s identifier for your account. I never see your GitHub or Google password.
- Sign-in records. A log of sign-ins, token refreshes, sign-outs and failed attempts, with the time and the method used. It is used to run and secure the service.
- Your work in Opteryx. The SQL you run and its history, datasets you upload or create, workspaces and their access grants, and tokens you issue. This is your content and I only use it to provide the service.
- Billing details. If you add a billing account, your card is collected by Stripe in a form that runs on Stripe’s side. I store only Stripe’s reference for the card, its brand and its last four digits, plus the usage that was billed.
- Usage. The number of queries, the amount of data queried and the amount stored, which are used to apply the free allowance and to bill.
What this website does not do
No advertising, no analytics and no tracking scripts. Fonts are served from this site. The browser storage Studio uses (localStorage and sessionStorage) holds your sign-in tokens, your theme, your last query and your row-limit setting, so it can work. It stays on your device.
The AI assistant
The assistant in Studio uses an AI provider key that you supply. When you use it, what you type is sent to that provider under your own account and their terms. I don’t provide a model of my own.
Who else handles it
- Google Cloud hosts the service and stores your data in its us-east1 region (South Carolina, USA).
- Stripe processes card payments.
- GitHub and Google provide sign-in.
- Calendly handles the “Talk to us” booking page, if you use it.
I don’t sell your data or share it for advertising.
Your choices
You can ask me for a copy of the personal data I hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Dropping a workspace in Studio deletes that workspace and its data. Where the law where you live gives you further rights, those apply too.
Changes
If this changes in a way that matters, the date at the top will change and I’ll say so on the site.
